Their motivations are relatively simple. One of the great revelations that happens in the next part of the story (possibly a second book, considering what I have planned) is that humanity once ruled the universe. Humanity is not native to earth, though Neanderthals are closely related to homo-sapiens. However, the great human empire fell into despair after several of their key worlds where hit with supernovas and completely destroyed. At this point, many remaining humans fled to Earth. However, many others chose to "evolve." Much like in "2001, A Space Odyssey" around half the remaining humans in the core world's chose to become energy beings. This lead to their far reaching worlds (the Azurans are one such example) to forget their origins, or in the case of the Invaders, to worship them.
That wouldn't make much sense, if not for an AI that went insane after it lost contact with the rest of empire. The AI led the Invaders to believe they were the destined children of the empire, and the remnants of the empire were their rightful inheritance. This causes a thousand year crusade to check up on every world the AI has in its databanks, conquering every world they come across and absorbing their peoples, their cultures, and their technology.
This led them to the Blue System, and the Azurans. When they first glimpsed the Azurans, they thought them to be devils and demons, as none of the other planets inhabitants had skin colors such as theirs (most of them had skin colors like Earthlings, including the Invaders themselves). When they posed the question of what the Azurans where to the AI, it read their fears and confirmed them, causing the systematic slaughter of an entire race.

Act 7
Here begins our true story. The 4th Colonization Fleet was destined for the fourth star chart world. Upon their arrival to the system, the name for the planet was to be Pangaea. The naming referencing the fact that the planet had one large continent (about the size of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined) with several Australia sized islands in the oceans. Much like the other worlds found on the star chart, Pangaea contained the ruins of a previous civilization. However, unlike the previous worlds, these ruins were far larger than any previously seen on New Terra. As a matter of fact, they seemed to go for miles in every direction, and even under the ocean floor.
Much like New Terra's initial colonization period, the ruins were of great interest to pretty much everyone. Teams regularly scouted them out until one team came back with tales of a hanger that could easily hold one of the Fleet's ships. Upon investigation the hanger really was that big. It also held another secret on its lower levels. Three robots, the largest was roughly 40 meters tall and the other two weren't far behind.
Decisions on what to do with the machines took months to do but eventually the three major factions came to a conclusion. The Orbital Alliance would take the one called Tyr. The Terrestrial Union would take Grito. The Conglomerate would take Ishkur.

Act 6
After hearing the reasoning behind the Azuran departure, the AAT governing bodies decide they need to formulate a plan of their own incase the Invaders decide to come to Earth before they are ready. Among the knowledge stored in the databanks of the Azuran ships is an ancient star chart, the same star chart the Azuran governor had been studying. The chart is so old not even the oldest among the Azuran colonists know what it means. After decoding the star chart, it appears to be worlds suitable for inhabitation. Deciding it may be in their best interests, they send a colony fleet to the planet, for even if they can't colonize it they would be closer to any other planet on the chart than from anywhere in the Sol System.
Leaving the Sol System on New Year's Day, 2040 the colony fleet makes its year long journey to the new planet. Upon their arrival at the planet, it appears perfectly habitable, with a slightly higher than normal iron content just below the surface. During the initial exploration after landing the colony ships, it is discovered that the abnormal iron content is the result of ruins that have lain dormant for well over ten thousand years. Excavating the ruins, the explorers find technology that borders on magic. The technology is also bears a striking resemblance to that of the Travel Planets, leaving many to believe that it is a remnant of another civilization.
After questioning the Azurans government about the ruins, they inform the explorers of one of their ancestral legends. The legend states that Azurans were brought to the blue system on massive rods of silver and that their seed was sown throughout the original Azure. The Azurans, having been at their technological level for well over 1000 years, debunked the legend multiple times and developed their own evolutional theory which was quite similar to Darwin's theory. The explorers had other ideas. The "massive rods of silver" could well have been star ships considering light colors such as silver are quite popular and common. Working off of that basis many begin to believe that the Azurans are the work of another race.
In 2045, four years after their arrival on the new planet, now known as New Terra, the planet is a well-developed place. The ruins are largely excavated and people are free to explore them at their leisure, as it's impossible to get lost in them. New Terra's economy is largely based around food production, as it has much more land space than Earth does despite being a similar size.
Also around this time, heavy development has taken place in the Sol System. With the success of New Terra, the Earth governments form a new alliance, dubbed the Sol Alliance. The SA incorporates not only the Earth governments, but the Azurans and any and all colonies and space stations that are cropping up and are to be built. Part of the announcement of the SA is that in by 2050, every planet will be probed and ships prepped to colonize them.
The probes return in 2048 with great news. All the planets are perfectly inhabitable, and preliminary scans show that all the planets have high iron content. Due to the fact that the SA had planned that the planets would be inhabitable, they had went ahead and built the colony fleets. There were 11 of them, one for each planet. Each fleet contained roughly 300 million people. By 2051, all the ships had arrived at the destinations.

Act 5
With an explanation of why the Azure fled their system, most of the world is satisfied, the world governments and the Azure enter into private talks about the Invaders. We learn that one of the reasons for the quick defeat (aside from the pathetic fleet) was the hyper advanced technology the Invaders had. Their main fighting force in space was composed of single to ten man craft, along with capital ships, frigates, carriers and the like. These craft range from slightly bigger than current fighters, to the size of four or five story buildings. What made these craft so deadly (along with their ships) where their shields and armaments. Their shields here far ahead of the Azuran's design, which was largely to keep small objects from puncturing holes in the hull. These shields shrugged off missiles and cannon fire like nothing. The only way to break them was to send hundreds of missiles and thousands of cannon rounds toward them. The ships themselves weren't much better than the Azuran designs so if they broke the shield, they could bring one down. However this only occurred two or three times in the course of the six month invasion. Generally speaking the Azuran ships were too busy with point defense to bother with the ships. See the Invader craft (depending on size) could transform slightly. It wasn't much, they went from fighters, to having arms and legs (like the GERWALK mode of a Variable Fighter of Macross fame). In this mode the craft could out maneuver missiles and cannons (or simply shoot down the missiles). Once they closed in the craft could punch through the Azuran shields with ease and place a limpet mine on the ship and escape before it exploded. On the ground the Invader tanks had a similar function, the torso could rise up and had two arms (think of the Hildolfr from MS IGLOO). In this form they could use shields (which had issues when touching the ground) and pretty much charge through anything they wanted. The Invader infantry force consisted of robotic looking figures that where about ten foot tall and faceless (they had masks on). Their infantry fought with a combination of caseless ammo based weapons and with a touch of laser and plasma weapons (relegated to heavy weapon roles, such as AT or suppressive fire). They swept through and ransacked each planet in no time, leaving few Azurans alive in the process. Having no way to flee, the Azurans fled on whatever ships they could, loading up as much in the way of supplies and cryo-pods as they could. The sick and elderly had first priority for the pods, as no one knew how long they would be in space. Along with supplies, they made copies of every design they could. Once the war broke out, every planet made copies of every design and loaded them into near indestructible containers. These containers took precedent on the ships over the nearly dead, dying, and in some cases the elderly. They contained all knowledge of the Azurans, and they were determined to make sure every ship had copies of everything.

Act 3:
Act 3 is from the perspective of the US government in 2020 to 2030. There will be interludes featuring many other world governments, but the primary focus is the US here. It will deal with the initial decisions surrounding the arrival of the Azure, how to handle them, and generally the chaos it will bring. Part of this will feature the suspicions of the governments, as the Azurans aren't very forthcoming about why they left.
Act 4:
Act 4 starts in 2030, a full six years after first contact. While most everyone accepts the Azure as part of life, there is a growing movement to uncover why the Azurans arrived in the Sol system. This eventually leads to rioting around the world and the revelation of why the Azurans left. We also learn much more about the Invaders, and why the Azure military was so quickly defeated. The Azure had largely let their fleet of military ships degrade, not to the point of being useless, but they had been decommissioning ships for close to a hundred years. By the time of the Invasion, they had 200 ships. That's not 200 capital ships, that's 200 military ships, total. There were around 500,000 civilian ships, ranging from cruise liners, to small one man craft. The total population of the Azure Empire before the Invasion was 15 billion, spread over 20 planets and moons and around 300 large space stations, and numerous small ones. Then we come back to the fleet that comes to Earth. There are about 30 of them, ranging in size from the four massive colony ships to the smaller transports. The total population was roughly 300 million upon their arrival. In 2030, they have boosted their population up to about 500 million, and it climbs every year. This doesn't take into account those who paired off with humans. One of the massive reveals during wake of the initial arrival is that humans and Azurans are sexually compatible. Their offspring are perfectly normal, and it's a 50/50 chance on how their skin will turn out. This of course lead to much racism and prejudice towards the mixed children and their parents, while there are others who hail this as one of the greatest things in human history.
